Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments are a range of cutting-edge aesthetic procedures (such as “Vampire Lift”) that rely completely on the body’s own healing powers. They require drawing a little bit (approx. 20ml) of your blood, then using a special centrifuge to isolate the thrombocytes (platelets). The portion of the centrifuged blood that contains the platelets is called “platelet rich plasma” or short “PRP”. PRP is high in growth factors and proteins that rapidly repair injuries to the skin, heal damage and further improve the amount of collagen in your skin cells. PRP works for several months following treatment to rejuvenate the tissue and bring back a youthful glow to your skin.
When PRP is injected to hair follicles, it stimulates hair growth. It therefore also works very effectively in hair restauration and is a complementary therapy to surgical hair transplantation.
Whilst PRP was originally developed in orthopedics and owes at least the initial phase of its popularity to the effective and rapid cure of sport injuries and arthritis, “Vampire Lift” means its application to the face. Treatment of the facial skin with PRP improves skin health and youthfulness. It also brings back a distinct, youthful radiance. The results can even be improved if PRP is not only injected into the facial tissue, but applied in combination with microneedling. Microneedling itself is a technique that stimulates the body’s own healing powers, the effect of PRP is thus compounded.
While microneedling itself has undoubtedly its merits and is offered as a standalone procedure at LIPS and SKIN in Munich, you will notice even smoother, more rejuvenated skin when combining it with PRP. The addition of PRP further boosts collagen production by allowing plasma that is rich in stem cells and natural growth factors to penetrate deeply into your skin’s cells, through the thousands of microchannels that are created temporarily by the needling.
In fact, at LIPS and SKIN Aesthetic Medicine, I treat the majority of my Munich PRP patients with a combination of microneedling and PRP. The procedure is simple and follows essentially the same protocol as the needling itself. Before the treatment is started, I will cleanse your skin thoroughly and apply a topical numbing creme containing Lidocaine. I will collect a small amount of blood from your arm and separate the platelets from the other blood cells with a centrifuge. The PRP will then be applied before the microneedling. For the latter I use a state of the art electrical needling device. Following the treatment, you can continue your normal activities with no downtime. However, as the needling will leave visible traces on your face for 2-3 days, I recommend allowing for a decent time window between social events. I also recommend standard precaution and after-care procedures applicable to all facial treatments, such as avoidance of direct sunlight, as your skin will be sensitive and more prone to sun damage.
The method can be used on the face, neck, décolleté and back of the hand and takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The complete renunciation of exogenous substances makes PRP treatments interesting for allergy sufferers who have an intolerance to e.g. hyaluron products.
The costs start at about 450 Euro and depend on the scope of treatment. Prices are stated for indicative purposes only and will be calculated individually case by case according to the German Scale of Medical fees (GOÄ).
